NORPART Project

Ghana-Norway Collaboration in Medical Physics and Radiography Education

NORPART-project

The Ghana-Norway Summer  School (GNSS) in Medical Physics and Radiography is one of the major activities under the Norwegian Partnership Programme for Global Academic Cooperation (NORPART) Project. GNSS is spearheaded by the Medical Physics Department of the School of Nuclear and Allied Sciences, University of Ghana (UG) and the Physics Department of the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). The Summer School is held annually at different locations in Ghana for students and practitioners of Medical Physics, Radiography, Radiation Protection and related fields. The topics covered vary from year to year. Lecturers with academic and clinical backgrounds are recruited from partner institutions in Ghana and Norway. Participants are selected from different regions of Ghana, other African countries and Norway. The Summer School is a meeting place for both students and professionals. There are plans to include scientific presentations as an increasingly important part of the School.

Background

The initiative, a collaboration between Ghana and Norway, under the Norwegian Partnership Programme for Global Academic Cooperation (NORPART) with the project titled Ghana-Norway Collaboration in Medical Physics and Radiography Education (NORPART-2016/10470) has the objective to establish a partnership for education and research within the fields of Medical Physics, Radiation Protection and Radiography. The project covers student mobility at masters and PhD levels, internships at the hospital, mobility of academic staff, annual summer school and guest lectureship.

The Summer School is one of the activities under the NORPART project, which has the School of Nuclear and Allied Sciences (SNAS) of the University of Ghana and the Physics Department of the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) as the main counterpart institutions.
There are other network partners in the project from both Ghana and Norway.

Objectives of NORPART

Partnership for education and research in the areas of Medical Physics, Radiation Protection and Radiography, which aims to increase:

  1. Mobility of Medical Physics and Radiography students between the partner institutions.
  2. Contact between and mobility of academic staff at the partner institutions.
  3. Quality and internationalization at the levels of masters and PhD programs in Medical Physics
and Radiography at the partner institutions.

The NORPART Project is funded by the Norwegian Agency for International Cooperation and Quality Enhancement in Higher Education (Diku).
